(Richmond, IN)--Backups as long as ten miles on westbound I-70 are expected to begin in Preble County Saturday. That’s because 9 o’clock Friday night, crews will reduce 70 to one lane at the New Paris Pike overpass in Richmond to slide a new bridge into place. INDOT predicts traffic on National Road East, East Main, and Chester Boulevard will see increased traffic as people look to avoid construction. The closure will last two weeks. The backup is predicted to go east of U.S. 127. A new area of construction is affecting traffic in the Uptown Richmond area. Crews began Thursday to restrict lanes and remove pavement on Eighth Street from Main Street to South C. On Friday, they’ll dig a much deeper trench as part of a project that will continue for several months at a minimum. Friday also marks a shift of construction on the State Road 1 bridge over I-70 near Cambridge City. Construction will shift from the west side to the east side of the bridge. That project should be done by November.
