Local News: A service of Reid Health

(Wayne County, IN)--49.  That’s the number of people who have died for sure in Wayne County due to drug overdoses already this year.  That number is higher than the total number of deaths for all last year.  Coroner Ron Stevens presented the numbers at a recent Heroin is Here meeting.  The number now is actually likely higher than that due to the lag time between overdose deaths and confirmation from testing.  Five of those deaths are due to an elephant tranquilizer known as carfentanil.  Drugs including marijuana, cocaine, and LSD have all been found locally laced with fentanyl of some type.
