(Richmond, IN)--Three out of every ten babies born at Reid Health last year were born to drug-addicted mothers.  That’s according to newly released figures from the group Heroin Is Here.  It’s a very slight drop from the numbers in 2016.  But, only two positive tests in the last half of last year were for heroin.  There was, though, a large increase in the percentage of mothers with marijuana in their system.  While 30% of mothers were addicted last year, in 2010 that number was less than 2/10 of one percent.  The number of drug overdose deaths in Wayne County grew by at least 32% last year.  Early last year, Wayne County was on pace to have over a hundred deaths.  The final number will not be that high.  In 2017, there were 74 confirmed OD deaths, but there are few remaining pending cases that could add to the total.  We’re barely nine days into 2018, and there have already been two suspected overdose deaths in Wayne County this year.
