(New Paris, OH)--Two people, including a ten-year-old girl, are dead following an apparent domestic dispute in New Paris. It happened late last night on New Paris–Gettysburg Road. It appeared to investigators that an adult male shot and killed the girl, shot and wounded the girl’s mother, and then turned the gun on himself. "Any loss of life is not good. But then, when you have a small child who has lost their life at the hands of someone else, it just compounds what you're dealing with," said Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson. The adult female was taken to Reid Hospital with wounds that were described as non-life-threatening. No names have been released. There had been a history of domestic violence at the home. James Singleton lives nearby and had heard the couple fighting. "I'd heard them argue. I just figured it was a normal husband and wife argument," Singleton said. "There is a history of domestic violence between our suspect and the mother of the child," Simpson added. Both shooting victims were found in the home’s driveway. There had been an active restraining order in place.
