(Richmond, IN)--Nine people escaped a duplex fire in Richmond Friday morning. The fire broke out in the upstairs unit of a home in the 100 block of South 11th at 12:30 Friday morning. "Our neighbor runs down the stairs and bangs on the door and tells us that our house is on fire," said LaTisha Gillard, who lives in the downstairs unit. She said damage was substantial. "We know the upstairs is pretty bad. Our downstairs is mainly water damage." But, she credited the fire department for getting it under control in 20 minutes. "They did a really good job of getting it out pretty quickly," Gillard said. There’s no word yet on what started the fire. There were no injuries.
