(Wayne County, IN)--A sheriff’s deputy in Wayne County escaped serious injury after allegedly being attacked by a man armed with a bow and arrow. Sergeant Jeff Chenowith was sent to an area near Cart and Inke Road at 7:30 Tuesday night. There, 28-year-old Zachary Karanovich allegedly pointed the bow and arrow at Chenowith, but never shot it. The two got into a brief fistfight. Karanovich fled on foot and was caught a short distance away. Chenowith was taken to Reid Health and was released. Karanovich was taken to the Wayne County Jail. He has a lengthy criminal record, mostly involving alcohol.
