(Richmond, IN)--A large manhunt through southeastern Richmond Sunday afternoon ended with the capture of a Liberty man. 32-year-old James Goubeaux had allegedly broken into two homes and then fled into wooded areas and farm fields near Wernle and Niewoehner Roads. Multiple agencies joined the search. Two sheriff’s deputies and a police canine had to be treated for heat-related illness. Goubeaux was eventually captured after two good Samaritans gave him a ride on Niewoehner Road and stopped to ask a deputy for help. The search and ultimate capture of Goubeaux Sunday afternoon was aided by numerous people. Firefighters carried a sheriff’s deputy who had collapsed in the heat about a half a mile through a farm field. Nearby Walmart provided water and ice to all deputies. Even the homeowner on Pheasant Run that walked in on Goubeaux brought a cooler of water. Arbor Trace was placed on lockdown during the manhunt. 33-year-old Ashley Reed was also arrested in the incident for trying to use a stolen credit card at Walmart.
