COUNCILMAN PROPOSES CHANGES TO SOLID WASTE COLLECTION BILLING

(Richmond, IN)--One member of Richmond Common Council is making an effort to change the way solid waste disposal is billed in an effort to make that billing more fair and to lower the cost to residents.  Jamie Lopeman said that, currently, waste disposal is based on assessed value, meaning that someone living in a more expensive home could pay significantly more for the same service.  Lopeman is proposing charging all residents a flat $20 per month fee and building that fee into tax collection.  He claims the change would save someone living in a $150,000 home up to $500 each year.
