EARLY-MORNING FIRES SET ALONG RAILROAD TRACKS

(Richmond, IN)--Two fires were apparently intentionally set along the railroad tracks that run parallel to Richmond Avenue Thursday morning.  According to scanner traffic, police and firefighters were originally sent to the railroad trestle over Sheridan Street at around 3 o’clock Thursday morning on the report of a burning mattress on the tracks.  Then, cardboard inside a trailer was discovered burning just to the east near Purina.  "Someone obviously threw something in there and set the cardboard on fire.  It was just a slow process because you've got to peel all the cardboard out to put it out," said Battalion Chief Eric Holmes.  No suspects have been located.
