NWS: SECOND TORNADO HIT PREBLE COUNTY

(New Hope, OH)--The National Weather Service said Monday that a second tornado touched down in Preble County on Sunday night.  An EF-1 tornado with wind speeds of 90 miles per hour touched down on Toby Road just west of Eaton.  It was on the ground for 4.5 miles.  Sheet metal from a barn flew for nearly half a mile.  The National Weather Service added Monday that the tornado that touched down near West Alexandria was also an EF-1.  Wind speeds with that tornado reached 95 miles per hour.  In addition to confirming that two tornados touched down in Preble County on Sunday, the National Weather Service explained Monday why weather warning sirens never sounded.  A weather service spokesperson said that Doppler radar did not indicate rotation in the storm, possibly due to the distance from where it’s situated in Dayton.  The spokesperson also said that the tornados formed extremely quickly.  A tornado warning was never issued, although a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect.
