(Preble County, OH)--Three people were killed in a four-vehicle crash on westbound I-70 near the state line Wednesday afternoon. Westbound traffic had stopped very near the Ohio Arch for construction around Richmond. Investigators say one semi driver was not paying attention and slammed into the back of an SUV. "The car rolled two or three times. When that vehicle rolled, it ejected both occupants out," said Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Kramer. Others tried to help the victims. "Bystanders were trying to render same aid. They passed away here at the scene," Kramer explained. I-70 was then shut down. The semi driver died at a Dayton hospital. Two other semis were involved. Those drivers were not hurt. The two occupants of the SUV are thought to have been Preble County residents, although their identities had not been released by 7 a.m. Thursday. A total of five people died in the Preble County crashes over the course of just 31 minutes yesterday.
