On Wednesday afternoon, the governors of both Indiana and Ohio issued mask mandates for their respective states. In Indiana, Governor Eric Holcomb said that the mask mandate will go into effect this coming Monday, July 27th. Holcomb cited several factors for the mandate, including an effort to ensure children can attend school next month. The mandate will be for anyone over the age of seven in indoor public spaces or commercial entities, and outdoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Holcomb's announcement this afternoon essentially renders a decision this morning by Wayne County Commissioners meaningless. The mandate at the state level will go into effect before a Wayne County mandate would have begun. In Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine said the mandate will go into effect at 6 o'clock Thursday night. Details of Ohio's mandate are much the same as Indiana's.
