(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Common Council Monday night heard about plans to remove the Weir Dam. If you don’t know it by name, that’s the ten-foot dam that creates a sort of waterfall in the Whitewater Gorge near the swinging foot bridge. Beth Fields with the city told Council MOnday night that it would mean more use of the river. "Part of that includes the revealing of our water and utilizing our water. Removing that dam is one step in that large process," Fields said. An ordinance to cover the $165,000 cost of removal through grant money claims it will result in increased safety, increased water quality, and better fish passage.
