The Wayne County 2023 primary has now been officially canceled, after county election officials agreed yesterday that no primary is necessary this spring.  The cancelation came after officials upheld a challenge lodged by Wayne County Republican Chair Gary Saunders that two of the three GOP candidates for Richmond Mayor do not meet the state's requirements of voting as a Republican in the previous two primary elections.  That leaves only one challenger to Democratic incumbent Dave Snow in that election, and no other Richmond races have more than one candidate seeking their party's nomination.  The cancellation of the May primary can save the county between 55 and 60,000 dollars since there would be no need to hire poll workers, security staff, print ballots or any other expenses normally associated with holding an election.
