LOCAL WATER OFFICIAL: AQUIFER CONTAMINATION FROM DERAILMENT UNLIKELY

(Whitewater Valley)--Some local residents have expressed concern that the contamination from the train derailment in eastern Ohio could sink into aquifers and affect local water.  Brad Colter with Connersville Utilities addressed that possibility Thursday.  "With our source being several aquifers away from the contamination, in this instance I feel pretty comfortable that we're in good shape," Colter said.  Colter said that he and other Whitewater Valley emergency management officials are watching the situation closely.  "We'll be ready to do what needs to be done if something needs to be done."  Contamination that entered the Ohio River will pass closest to us this weekend.
