(Richmond, IN)--One of Richmond’s most wanted men walked into the Wayne County Jail a couple of minutes after midnight Friday morning and turned himself in.  23-year-old Thomas Vanmeter is being held now on a parole violation, but more charges will almost certainly be added.  Vanmeter was the target of a SWAT Team search on Wednesday on South West 3^rd.  He was not located during that raid.  He was wanted for alleged marijuana growing and meth dealing from a home on Flatley Road.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman was jailed at just before midnight Thursday night after she nearly drove head-on into a Richmond police cruiser.  It began with 35-year-old Melissa Leonard allegedly shooting up in the Olive Garden bathroom.  She left in a car.  A good Samaritan followed her and relayed her location to dispatchers.  Officers found Leonard in the Glen Miller Park area.  That’s where she nearly struck the officer.  Drugs, marijuana, needles, and other paraphernalia was found in Leonard’s possession.

(Richmond, IN)--11 people have been arrested since early Thursday morning on drug charges in Wayne County, and some of them are serious.  Maureen Rivers and Eric Commons were jailed Thursday for possessing methamphetamine and cocaine and for battering a police officer.  Cotey Ewen of Fountain City was caught Thursday afternoon at Richmond’s Motel 6.  He’s charged with dealing meth and heroin.  Breann Null was jailed for maintaining a common nuisance.

(Richmond, IN)--The Indiana State Police and a SWAT Team stormed a house on South West 3^rd Street in Richmond Wednesday afternoon looking for who is now one of Richmond’s most wanted men.  Law enforcement agents could clearly be heard calling for Thomas Van Meter to exit the home ln the 300 block of South West 3^rd.  When no one responded, officers used a flash grenade that blew some windows out of the home and entered.  According to the state police Thursday morning, Van Meter was not located.  He’s wanted in connection with drug activity at a home on Flatley Road.  Another arrest was made in that case Wednesday.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond High School soccer standout who had just last week signed a letter of intent to play at IU East is woke up behind bars Thursday morning.  Hannah Schamel is in the Wayne County Jail.  She was booked in at 1:30 Thursday morning and charged with both possession of marijuana and the more serious felony charge of maintaining a common nuisance.  Jail reports indicate Schamel was taken into custody on South West 4^th.  No other details have been released.

(New Paris, OH)--Help from the public is still being sought in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Travis Bourne in New Paris.  Bourne’s body was discovered late Tuesday night during a welfare check at his home on Cardinal Hill Drive.  Now, the Preble County Sheriff’s Department is looking for two vehicles that were taken from the home.  No description of the cars has been released.  Investigators have not said specifically how Bourne was killed or how long he may have been dead before his body was discovered.  An autopsy has been completed.

(Cambridge City, IN)--The town councils of Cambridge City, Mount Auburn, and Dublin have called a joint meeting to get more information about the decision by the Western Wayne Sewer Board to expand rather than connecting to Connersville.  That expansion is necessary to expand the Gateway Industrial Park.  According to an email from EDC CEO Valerie Shaffer, those three town boards are looking for more information.  A public meeting has now been set for Monday night at 6 at the Golay Center.

(New Paris, OH)--There was a large police presence in New Paris overnight Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, although officials were being very tight-lipped about it later Wednesday morning.  Officers and deputies arrived at a home on Cardinal Hill Drive at around 9:30 Tuesday night and immediately cordoned off an area with crime scene tape.  They didn’t clear the scene until around 3 o’clock Wednesday morning.  Officials say details are coming later in the day on Wednesday.

(Wayne County, IN)--There’s been a big drop in the number of people in the Wayne County workforce in the last year.  According to new figures from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Wayne County has 906 fewer people in the workforce than it did at this time last year.  There are also 750 fewer people actually working.  Wayne County’s unemployment rate is 5.2%.  That’s the same rate as last month.

(Richmond, IN)--A man who officials say is likely an illegal immigrant was in the Wayne County Jail Wednesday morning after allegedly trying to strangle a female victim.  Police responded to a domestic situation at the home of 24-year-old Bautisto Santiago in the 100 block of North 17^th in Richmond late Tuesday night.  Santiago allegedly fled the scene but was found later hiding in a nearby garage.  There’s no word on the condition of the victim.

(Richmond, IN)--Monday was Day #1 of about 700 days of road construction near Uptown Richmond.  Orange barrels are up and work is now underway on a $24 million project that will refurbish two miles of southbound U.S. 27 and another mile on U.S. 40.  The phase that got underway Monday will see the jog in the road just south of the Depot overpass straightened and the intersection of Chester Boulevard and North J Street improved.

(Fountain City, IN)--The first court hearing for Fountain City Town Councilman Jesse Berger is now set for Friday morning.  Charges were officially filed Monday after Berger’s DUI arrest last week.  Those charges include a designation as a habitual vehicular substance offender because of two previous DUI convictions.  According to the affidavit, which was also filed Monday, Berger was found passed out behind the wheel on Fountain Avenue.  His blood-alcohol content was .234 – more than three times the legal limit.

(Richmond, IN)--Two alleged burglars were taken into custody Tuesday morning.  46-year-old Todd Heyne and 45-year-old David Mowdy were taken into custody at a home in the 400 block of South M Street in Richmond and booked into jail at just before 3 o’clock Tuesday morning.  Both are charged with burglary and theft.  Details of what led to Heyne and Mowdy’s arrest have not been released.

(Richmond, IN)--Investigators are still working to see if two Richmond shootings that occurred early Sunday morning are connected.  Richmond residents Elliot Gaston and Trenton Owens were both shot in the parking lot directly west of Smiley’s Pub just after the bar closed.  Both were flown to Level One trauma centers.  Their conditions were still being withheld Monday morning.  About a half an hour after that shooting, shots were fired into a home in the 1500 block of North H Street.  No one was hurt in that incident.  There has been no word of any arrests in the shootings.

(Richmond, IN)--Richmond police are looking for a teenage robber after an incident late Sunday night near the south-side Dairy Queen.  The victim told police that a boy between the ages of 16 and 18 said that he had a gun but never produced a weapon.  After the incident, the suspect ran up a hill near South L Street.  Police searched the area but could not locate the teen.  The victim did not report any injuries.

(Richmond, IN)--An alleged Richmond drug dealer was taken into custody at Reid Health over the weekend.  She’s 51-year-old Kristin Snider.  Police reports indicate officers found methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription drugs in Snider’s possession at Reid.  She has bonded out of the Wayne County Jail.  Last week, two other men were arrested after allegedly using illegal drugs inside Reid.

(Fountain City, IN)--A Fountain City Town Council member remained behind bars Friday morning.  25-year-old Jesse Berger was stopped in Fountain City at around 6:15 Thursday morning.  He was allegedly driving drunk and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.  Berger was also charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.  It’s not the first run-in with the law for Berger.  He has been convicted of two previous DUI’s and one count of possession of a controlled substance.  Berger is being held on a $755 bond.

(Brookville, IN)--The two Brookville police officers who were forced to shoot and kill an armed man last month have now been cleared of any wrongdoing.  Prosecutors say Officers Lucas Richardson and Terry Mitchum acted appropriately when they shot and killed 29-year-old Donald Parker at a home on State Road 101 just north of Brookville.  Parker was involved in a domestic dispute, exited his home, and pointed a gun at the officers that had arrived.  Parker had a long criminal record, including a recent charge of battery against a public safety official.

(Richmond, IN)--What started as an overdose call in the 1000 block of North C Street on Thursday night ended with the arrest of a Richmond couple.  Lucas Worley allegedly overdosed.  Carrie Worley called for help.  Police reports indicate both became combative.  Lucas Worley was revived, taken to Reid Health, and then to the Wayne County Jail.  Carrie Worley also was jailed.  They’re charged with maintaining a common nuisance and possession of drugs and syringes.

(Wayne County, IN)--Fire destroyed a home west of Fountain City overnight.  Crews from multiple agencies were called at around 10:30 Wednesday night to a home at the intersection of Davis Meyers and Round Barn Roads.  The house was fully involved when the first units arrived.  No one was home at the time, but bystanders feared for the safety of numerous horses.  All were thought to be okay Thursday morning.  There’s no word yet on what may have caused the fire.  Firefighters were sent back out at just before 5 o'clock Thursday morning when the fire rekindled.

(Winchester, IN)--Most people will applaud this arrest…a Winchester-area man has been charged with reckless homicide due to his friend’s overdose death.  29-year-old Caleb Burkhart allegedly provided heroin to 28-year-old Keith Lee, who overdosed and died in Randolph County last week.  Burkhart has 12 convictions in the last seven years, including seven counts of theft.

(Whitewater Valley)--State Representative Dick Hamm has released results of a legislative survey that was conducted in the Whitewater Valley and covered a variety of topics.  61% of residents in our area support new funding for the drug Narcan.  The notion of whether or not to fund better roads through increased taxes was split 50/50.  And, four out of five people said that people should have to pass a drug screening to be eligible for food stamps.

(Richmond, IN)--It was early last month when there was a partial overnight ceiling collapse at Richmond’s Holiday Inn.  Now, there’s been another overnight incident.  Firefighters were called there at midnight on the smell of smoke in a small furnace area.  "Some wiring started smoking.  We just disconnected the power to the furnace," said Battalion Chief Eric Holmes.  Holiday Inn staff partially evacuated the hotel, which was nearly full for the night.  "They had started the evacuation before we even got on the scene," Holmes added.  That evacuation lasted for only about ten minutes.  Crews were on the scene for a couple of hours.  Damage was minimal.

(Richmond, IN)--AirBnB is an online site where private homeowners offer a room or home overnight to visitors…much like a hotel.  It’s not prevalent in Richmond – at least not yet.  There are only about 20 homes available locally on any given night.  Still, the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce issued a position statement Tuesday saying that they believe AirBnB’s should be treated like any other hotel in terms of taxes and regulations.  A bill addressing that issue is working its way through the Indiana Statehouse.

(Richmond, IN)--A highly-combative Richmond teen was Tased Tuesday night as he fought with and then fled police.  Police were called to the 2300 block of North D Street and encountered 19-year-old Diether Cruse and located some marijuana.  After being Tased, Cruse was taken to Reid Health.  Officials there had to make special arrangements because of Cruse’s combative nature.  On Wednesday morning at the Wayne County Jail, Cruse was placed into chair with multiple restraints.  As of 5:30 Wednesday morning, jail staff had been unable to take Cruse’s mug shot.

(Lynn, IN)--A Lynn man has been charged with the murder of a toddler.  22-year-old Joshua Null was in the Randolph County Jail Tuesday morning and is being held without bond.  Last week, first responders went to a home on County Road 300 West on the report of a child not breathing.  The child was pronounced dead shortly afterward.  A subsequent autopsy revealed that the child died from blunt force trauma.  Investigators then interviewed and arrested Null Monday.  There’s no word yet on what sort of connection Null had to the child.

(Richmond, IN)--The city of Richmond has settled the barking dog issue.  Common Council Monday night agreed to the terms of the ordinance after having haggled over details for several weeks.  The ordinance passed 7-2 and boils down to this…a dog owner can be fined if his or her dog barks continuously for a half an hour during the day or for 20 minutes in the overnight hours.  The fine for the first offense is $50 and increases to a maximum of $500.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman woke up in the Wayne County Jail Tuesday morning after having been arrested Monday for dealing drugs and neglect of a dependent.  33-year-old Jessica Hunter was taken into custody at her home in the 1700 block of North C.  Hunter was allegedly dealing both cocaine and heroin while caring for a very young child.  She faces three different felony charges.

(Richmond, IN)--There’s been no word yet on the future of the Richmond store, but the parent company of Elder-Beerman has announced that up to six stores will close nationally.  While that may not sound like many, there are only about three dozen Elder-Beermans nationally.  Bon-Ton stores is Elder-Beerman’s parent company.  Sales were down by $2.6 billion last year.  There’s been no word on when the specific stores that will close will be identified.  Also, Connersville’s J.C. Penney was on that company’s closing list.  That store operated in a plaza just off of 30^th Street.

(Richmond, IN)--A large amount of service members are coming to Richmond later this week for a conference.  "We will be bringing in roughly 120 Marines and their families from six states," said Anne Hunsinger with the Marine Corps League.  It’s a conference that will feature something very special.  It’s the Remembering Our Fallen Memorial.  It’s a traveling memorial for each state that will honor service members who have been killed since 9/11.  "there are three Wayne County natives on this memorial.  They are Layton Crass, Frederick Miller Junior, and Jonathon Layman (actuality 31383).  The memorial can be seen in the lobby of Richmond’s Holiday Inn beginning this Friday.

(Richmond, IN)--Monday brings the official end of winter and beginning of spring, and the numbers for the Whitewater Valley are incredible.  Richmond ends the winter months with a combined temperature of 569 degrees above normal.  That includes  a streak of 20 straight days above normal in January.  13 of those 20 days was at least 12 degrees above normal.  And check this out.  In February, 15 of the 28 days were at least ten degrees above normal, including an incredible high of 76 on February 24.

(Richmond, IN)--Two men were arrested Sunday after allegedly shooting up not just inside Reid Health, but on the 3rd floor.  Officers were called by Reid security and located 30-year-old Edward Hoelscher and 22-year-old Jared Morris inside Reid.  Both were charged with possession of methamphetamine and other drugs.  And, both were allegedly in possession of syringes.  And, both were in the Wayne County Jail Monday morning.

(Richmond, IN)--One person was injured Friday morning in a house fire on North West J Street in Richmond.  It broke out at 2:30 Friday morning.  "The fire started by a blanket that was too close to a wood-burning stove," said Mike Davis with the Richmond Fire Department.  The residents had tried to put the fire out.  "They attempted to extinguish it, but the fire spread faster than they could get it put out," Davis added.  One of the residents had to be taken to Reid Health.  "One patient was taken to the hospital for injuries and was treated and released for smoke inhalation," Davis explained.  Damage was set at $20,000.

(Richmond, IN)--Reid Health says flu season is finally winding down in the Whitewater Valley.  Reid said in a statement Thursday that flu cases spiked dramatically at the end of January.  They said warm weather could have contributed to more than 200 cases of flu by mid-February.  They also said the number of local flu cases is double what doctors saw last year.

(Richmond, IN)--The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for another big road project in the Whitewater Valley.  Milestone will do $3.1 million worth of work on U.S. 35.  Two bridges on 35 in the Economy area will see extensive work.  There will also be a much needed repaving of 35 in the area of I-70 and Love’s Truck stop.  The work won’t be complete until sometime this fall.

(Richmond, IN)--The Tiernan Center in Richmond is hosting the boys semi-state Saturday.  None of the four teams are from our area, but a full house is still expected.  And that means thousands of visitors to Richmond.  "The Richmond community has wonderfully embraced this event," said RHS Athletic Director Frank Carr.  Up to 50 volunteers are helping.  It’s made one returning team, even though they travel well over 150 miles, want to come back.  "These were her words...there hasn't been a place that they had been - including the state finals - that they've been treated any better than they were in Richmond," Carr added.  The first game tips at 4 Saturday afternoon.

(Richmond, IN)--Here’s something that’s becoming more common in our area…drug users are being arrested and jailed after they recover from an overdose.  It happened again Thursday at the Townhouse Apartments in Richmond.  21-year-old Kaitlyn Riddle overdosed and now is charged with visiting a common nuisance.  Brooke Null-Chestnut was also jailed for possession of a syringe and maintaining a common nuisance at Townhouse Apartments.

(Brookville, IN)--The man who killed five people in the Metamora area six years ago may get a new trial.  David Ison was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murders of four members of the Napier family and Henry Smith.  But Ison claimed in an appeal that his guilty plea was not voluntary and that his lawyer was inadequate.  The appellate court agreed.  There has been no determination yet of whether or not a new trial will take place.

(Campbellstown, OH)--A Richmond woman was found unharmed after a train smashed into her car in Campbellstown Thursday morning.  Preble County officials said that she had parked her car on the tracks on Crawfordsville-Campbellstown Road at 1:30 Thursday morning.  A mile-and-a-half-long train hit the car and pushed it a half-mile east to Daily Road.  Deputies searched the area and found the woman walking in the area.  The incident closed crossings in Campbellstown for a couple of hours Thursday morning.

(Fountain City, IN)--Several agencies were on the scene Thursday morning of a house fire just north of Fountain City.  Fire broke out at a home in the 9400 block of Middle Road at around 1:45 Thursday morning.  According to scanner traffic, flames were showing from the rear of the home as firefighters arrived.  Additional help arrived from Webster, Williamsburg, and Lynn.  Lynn firefighters cleared at around 4:30 Thursday morning but declined to provide any information.  Details about whether or not there were injuries, what caused the fire, and the extent of the damage have not been released.

(Wayne County, IN)--The number of unemployed Wayne County residents has increased by more than 200 in the last month.  That’s according to new figures from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.  But, there are still over a hundred more people working locally than were at this time last year.  Wayne County’s unemployment rate jumped this month from 4.4 to 5.2%.  A hundred people have also dropped out of the workforce in the last month.

(Richmond, IN)--Former Richmond attorney Tom Kemp has reached a plea deal of sorts that would have him repay $33,000 to 11 victims.  Those victims claim that Kemp took advance payments for legal services that he never provided.  Kemp would plead guilty to just one of a combined 17 felony and misdemeanor charges.  All other charges would be dropped.  Kemp has already repaid $80,000 of the $100,000 he stole from the estate of one man.  A mercy plea hearing has been set for Thursday.

(Richmond, IN)--The company that will reconstruct parts of Chester Boulevard has now set a week from Monday as the day that work will begin.  The first phase of the $24 million project will partially straighten out the jog in the road at North C Street, reconstruct the intersection of North J Street, and reconstruct the road between North B Street and Sim Hodgin Parkway.  The first phase won’t be complete until sometime this fall.

(Cambridge City, IN)--Cambridge City’s first canine officer is now on the job.  His name is Barry, and he was sworn-in this week at Cambridge City town counci.  Barry’s acquisition and training were made possible after $30,000 was raised in two and a half months.  Officer Matt Smarelli is Barry’s handler.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman was booked into the Wayne County Jail Wednesday morning after allegedly disrupting the first responders who were trying to save another woman who had overdosed.  23-year-old Natasha Bauer is charged with possession, disorderly conduct, and resisting.  The incident happened in the 1500 block of Oak Park Drive in Richmond.  The person who overdosed was revived and will also face criminal charges.

(Richmond, IN)--The Richmond Police Department is named in a federal audit that claims that more than $300,000 was misued.  Specifically, the audit questions the funding of the PACE Team.  That’s the multi-jurisdictional agency that patrols I-70 in eastern Indiana for drug trafficking.  Seized money is used to help fund the agency.  According to the report, RPD paid their officer assigned to the task force over $121,000 in seized money.  Here’s a spokesperson in Henry County, which is also a part of the PACE Team.  "There is no criminality involved in this whatsoever.  All of the funds that were spent were used for law enforcement."  The PACE Team has been credited confiscating millions of dollars’ worth of drugs since its inception.  Below is the transcript of the audit as it pertains to RPD:

Richmond Police Department – The Richmond Police Department did not have a separate accounting code for tracking DOJ Equitable Sharing Program activities. According to the Police Chief, the $125,819 in transferred funds were used to pay the salary and fringe benefit costs, including $4,387 in overtime costs, of the officer assigned to the PACE team. We determined that the overtime costs were properly authorized, supported, and in accordance with the Guide’s permissible use provisions. However, the Police Chief told us that the Richmond Police Department did not hire an officer to replace the officer assigned to the PACE team. Therefore, we are questioning the remaining $121,432 in salary and fringe benefit costs as unallowable because the Richmond Police Department failed to comply with the Guide’s requirements relating to the use of equitable sharing funds for salary expenditures.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman was arrested Monday night in the 100 block of North 11^th.  27-year-old Briana Snider was jailed for dealing meth, possession of heroin, and for selling counterfeit drugs.  Snider was one of six people jailed Monday on drug-related charges.  Others include Michael Davis, Paul Farrow, Angela Fields, Madison Hottman, and Brittany Weiss.

(Richmond, IN)--The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday that it had recently collaborated with law enforcement agencies in Union and Fayette County in an effort to find 20 people with outstanding warrants.  Two of those 20 were located on Sunday.  More information was garnered about the location of the other 18.  The search will continue for remaining suspects.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman celebrated her 100^th birthday Monday, and she’s got a rather unique key to longevity.  Joyce Mullins now calls the Leland Legacy home.  That’s where an event was held Monday.  What’s Joyce’s secret for reaching 100?  Kentucky Fried Chicken, and lots of it.  Joyce polished off a big ol’ bucket of KFC Monday in an event attended by several community leaders.

(Winchester, IN)--Winchester police were actively searching Monday morning for a man who fled from police detention Sunday night.  Isiah Butterfield is not an escapee from jail, but was being detained and had been handcuffed in the Summer’s Point area of Winchester when he fled.  Police established a perimeter Sunday night but could not find Butterfield.  Butterfield is a thin, light-skinned black male.  Contact Winchester police with information about Butterfield's whereabouts.

(West Alexandria, OH)--Counselors will be available Monday at Richmond Community Schools following the death of a teacher over the weekend.  29-year-old Anthony Armstrong, who taught at Test Intermediate School and lived in West Alexandria, was struck and killed by a semi as he was changing a tire along I-70 in Henry County on Saturday.  Armstrong was a special education teacher at Test and had previously been employed at Dennis and at Centerstone.  The accident remains under investigation.  Services for Anthony Armstrong are still pending.

(Richmond, IN)--An alleged Richmond drug dealer is back behind bars after being arrested for the second time in six weeks.  26-year-old Alex Irwin was first jailed on February 1.  Then, last night, he was arrested again.  Irwin was caught in the 100 block of South West 12^th Street.  He was arrested for possession and dealing cocaine.  Irwin was also wanted for failing to appear in court on a previous charge.

(Economy, IN)--An Economy-area man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman in the head late Thursday afternoon.  Deputies were called to the 9900 block of Sugar Grove Road.  The stabbing was apparently the culmination of a dispute between 54-year-old Michael Stewart and the female victim.  She was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.  Her identity and condition have not been released.  Stewart went first to Reid Health and then to the Wayne County Jail.  A third person was present during the incident.  Investigators were on the scene until nearly midnight Thursday night.

(Richmond, IN)--An affidavit has revealed more on the strangulation and battery arrest of a Richmond artist.  37-year-old Charles Guess was still in the Wayne County Jail Friday morning.  That affidavit indicates that Guess attacked his long-time girlfriend in December after she saw him at the Richmond Mall with another woman.  During that attack on North 16th, Guess first beat the victim, then held a gun to the victim’s head and then forced her to put the gun in her mouth as he threatened to kill her.  Investigators attempted to interview Guess.  Then, more recently, Guess made multiple threats to kill the victim as the investigation proceeded.  She secretly recorded all those threats and turned them over to police.  Guess is known in Richmond for several paintings he has done.

(Richmond, IN)--An Indiana Conservation officer is being credited with saving a life Wednesday night at Middlefork Reservoir.  The officer was patrolling at the reservoir when he noticed a suspicious car.  Inside the car were two men who were trying to hide a woman in the back of the car who had overdosed.  She was unresponsive with skin that was described as blue and, rather than trying to get her help, the men allegedly tried to hide her from the officer.  The officer administered Narcan and the woman was revived.  She was identified as 24-year-old Leah Hiatt of Richmond and was charged with possession.  32-year-old Joshua Snider of Richmond was also jailed for false informing.  Snider was also wanted in Franklin County.

(Liberty, IN)--Here are some more details of the arrival Thursday of the remains of Korean War soldier Gerald Shepler.  On Wednesday, Kicks 96 and 101.7 The Point were first to report that Shepler’s remains had been identified after he went missing in action more than 65 years ago.  Some streets in Shepler’s hometown of Liberty will be blocked off as the remains arrive at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon.  The Union County Sheriff’s Department will meet a procession on U.S. 27 at the Wayne-Union County line and escort it to Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home.  The Indiana Patriot Guard will lead the procession.

(Eaton, OH)--Eaton is getting a new big-box retailer that will likely fill a building that was left vacant by another retailer.  Gillman Home Center’s website indicates today that it will be opening in Eaton this fall.  It does not mention a specific location, but it will likely occupy the K-Mart building on North Barron Street.  K-Mart left Eaton last year.  Right now, the closest Gillman’s to Eaton is in Oxford.

(Liberty, IN)--A fallen soldier is coming home to Union County on Thursday.  It’s been more than 65 years since Gerald Shepler, who was known to his friends as “Bud”, left Union County to fight in the Korean War.  He never came home and was officially listed as missing in action for decades.  That ended last year, when DNA testing of surviving relatives helped to identify Shepler’s remains.  ON Thursday, those remains will be brought home.  A military procession will bring the remains into Union County at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon.  A full military funeral will take place on Saturday at Dunlapsville Cemetery near the northern edge of Brookville Lake.

(Richmond, IN)--There was a wild police chase early Wednesday morning through Richmond streets.  Multiple agencies were involved in trying to catch 23-year-old Avery Irwin, who originally fled at around 2 o’clock Wednesday morning.  The chase wound through Richmond’s west side in areas near Hidden Valley and Earlham College.  Irwin allegedly struck at least two parked cars before being caught in the 100 block of South West 15^th…not far from where he lives.  Irwin’s blood alcohol content was .316, which is just shy of four times the legal limit.

(Richmond, IN)--Investigators had compiled enough evidence to arrest a Richmond man Tuesday on a host of charges.  37-year-old Charles Guess was taken into custody on a probable cause warrant at his home on North 16^th Tuesday afternoon.  Guess was in jail Wednesday morning facing charges that include felony strangulation, battery, intimidation, and interfering with reporting a crime.  Details of what Guess is alleged to have done have not been released.

(Richmond, IN)--Wayne County’s EDC is moving into Richmond’s most historic building.  EDC CEO Valerie Shaffer announced Monday that the EDC’s office and all staff would move into the Historic Depot building on North E Street as early as this June.  First Realty Group is leasing 2200 square feet on the ground floor to the EDC for roughly the same amount the EDC is paying for its current location on the second floor of the Wayne Bank building, where it had existed for the last 22 years.  First Realty will be moving into the second floor of the Depot in May.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond man is back behind bars after being arrested for dealing cocaine Monday.  Jail is nothing new for 30-year-old Matthew Eversole.  That’s because he has 41 offenses in the last 13 years.  He was arrested four separate times last year on various drug offenses.  Also Monday, a wanted Missouri drug dealer was captured at Love’s Truck Stop in Richmond.  She faces extradition on Tuesday.

(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Common Council met Monday night and once again addressed a revised barking dog ordinance.  The goal of the ordinance is to make it easier to penalize dog owners who allow their dogs to bark excessively.  The ordinance was held over again Monday night when council could not agree on the hours of enforcement.  Half of council wants it enforced from 11 at night until 7 in the morning.  The other half of council wants to remove the time restrictions.  Council will take the issue up again in two weeks.

(Richmond, IN)--TBK America is growing.  The automotive supply manufacturer on West Industries Road in Richmond is investing $1.8 million and creating 21 new full-time jobs.  The expansion, which was announced Monday, will allow TBK to add oil and lube pumps for large trucks to their product line.  EDC CEO Valerie Shaffer and Richmond Mayor Dave Snow had visited TBK headquarters in Japan last year.  An expansion at Vandor Corporation in Richmond will create 30 new jobs.  On Monday, the EDC provided an EDIT tax grant to help Vandor invest $1.8 million to purchase new equipment that will allow them to add a line to produce hardwood caskets.  Vandor was established in 1972 and now operates at a facility on West Industries Road.

(Liberty, IN)--Union County’s ambulance problem was largely solved Monday with the awarding of a new contract to Spirit Medical Transport.  Union County had been scrambling to find service after bids came in much higher than what had been budgeted.  Spirit will take over a week from Thursday.  It will staff one ambulance around the clock for Union County and will add a second on weekends when campgrounds are heavily populated – like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.  Spirit is now looking to fill 15-20 EMS jobs.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond man was facing an armed robbery charge Monday morning.  27-year-old Rick Black, who lives in the Garden City Trailer Park, was in the Wayne County Jail Monday morning.  Scanner traffic indicated Black used a gun to try to hold up the BP station Sunday on National Road East at West Eaton Pike.  One report indicates Black and the clerk fought, Black fled, and left the gun behind.  He was taken into custody shortly afterward.

(Richmond, IN)--Three men were caught late Sunday night in one of Richmond’s most crime-ridden areas.  It’s the 1300 block of East Main Street.  Officers located methamphetamine, other drugs, and syringes.  Two men who are listed as next-door neighbors were both jailed.  They’ve been identified as Roy West and Destin Holbert.  Also arrested was Michael West of Lynn.  All three were still in jail Monday morning.

(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Mayor Dave Snow gave his first State of the City address Thursday night.  What is bound to be the most controversial element of Mayor Snow’s address Thursday night is his call for an increased role at the local level by a Human Rights Commission.  He will propose an amendment to an ordinance.  "This amendment will include sexual orientation, age, and veteran status," Snow said.  The local HRC was defunded several years ago, but Snow will examine bringing it back to focus on education, discrimination, and mediation issues.  The mayor talked about what many consider to be the city’s biggest problem…drug abuse.  Snow said that 54 people died in Wayne County last year from drug overdoses and that the county is on pace to surpass that number this year.  "I feel like on that front we have blantantly failed," Snow said.  The mayor wants to add officers to focus on drug houses and dealers.  Snow added that it’s necessary for all citizens to be willing to take an active role in the fight against drugs.  The demolition of the old Reid Hospital is one of Snow’s priorities for reasons that include safety and the negative impression it puts on the city.  Snow said that a recently-developed partnership between the city and the county will help fund an environmental remediation, and that those two entities would work together through the process.  "Together, we are going to bring that hospital to the ground," Snow predicted.  Snow did not put a timeline on cleaning up the property.

(Richmond, IN)--Stephen Via took the stand in his own defense Thursday in Wayne Circuit Court.  Via shot and killed Stacey Mosier on South 19^th in June of last year, but said it was accidental.  Via was grilled for four hours about details.  He said that he and Mosier had gotten into an argument and that he put the gun to her head to scare her.  Prosecutor Mike Shipman questioned Via on many forensic details that did not match Via’s account. Via could not offer an explanation.  The trial continues Friday.

(Richmond, IN)--Three Whitewater Valley men were taken into custody at Chuck’s Sports Bar in Richmond on a host of drug and other charges.  Matt Eversole of Richmond, Cotey Ewen of Fountain City, and Tim Schlaubach of Connersville were all allegedly in a car that was searched by officers at just after midnight Friday morning.  Inside the car, officers found marijuana, cocaine, herion, and a gun.  Ewen is a serious violent felon and should not have had a weapon.  All three were in the Wayne County Jail Friday morning.

(Richmond, IN)--The search is continuing Thursday for the man who tried to rob the west-side Marsh grocery store in Richmond Wednesday.  The man pulled a gun on a clerk and demanded money, but ran off before taking any cash.  Store employees saw him run south into a residential area.  No one was hurt.  Both Earlham College and Richmond High School took precautionary action.  The suspect is a black male with dreadlocks.

(Richmond, IN)--Multiple witnesses took the stand Wednesday in the murder trial of Steven Via in Wayne Circuit Court, and many of those witnesses told the same story…that they had seen continued evidence of physical abuse being suffered by Via’s girlfriend, Stacey Mosier.  Mosier was found dead on South 19^th in June of last year.  Mosier’s mother testified that she witnessed new injuries every time she saw Stacey, and that Stacey told her that Via caused them.  Via’s defense is that the gun that fired and killed Mosier went off accidentally.  The trial continues Thursday.

(Richmond, IN)--A candle in a bedroom caught a blanket on fire, and that led to serious damage to a home on North West I in Richmond.  Firefighters got the call at 10:45 Wednesday night.  "It was a single-story house with fire coming out of the bedroom window,"  said Battalion Chief Charlie Bartlett.  Two people were inside and made it out without injury.  Damage was substantial.  "$13,000 on the house and $7000 to the contents," Bartlett explained.  Firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours.

(Brookville, IN)--Brookville will be without a community swimming pool again this summer.  Heap Pool was closed last year for the first time in 50 years due to a large leak.  A consultant has said that it doesn’t make sense to put money into repairs because it would not be ADA compliant.  That’s prompted city leaders to announce that the pool will not re-open.  Now, they’re looking into funding a new pool.  That would likely cost at least $600,000.

(Darke County, OH)--Police in Union City and Greenville rounded up 13 alleged drug dealers Wednesday.  It was the culmination of a six-month investigation by multiple agencies.  Charges include trafficking in fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine.  Ten of the 13 have prior criminal records.  Most of the suspects are from Greenville and most are in their 20’s.

(Richmond, IN)--For the second time in a week, someone has been arrested right in front of the Wayne County Jail.  This time, it was 48-year-old Arlace Moore.  Moore was allegedly drunk and driving his moped aggressively on North A Street in Richmond.  He was stopped at the jail.  Moore was arrested just two weeks ago for domestic battery.  He was also jailed last September for another domestic incident, and arrested in 2015 for stealing a bicycle.  Moore was still in jail Thursday morning.

(Richmond, IN)--A Richmond woman reported that she was the victim of a robbery Tuesday night.  It happened at 8:45 Tuesday night in the 100 block of North 18^th Street.  The victim reported that she was getting out of her car when someone approached and took her purse.  He said that he had a gun but never displayed one.  He is described as a skinny white male with a tan ski mask.  Police questioned three men outside a nearby liquor store, but determined they were all too drunk to have pulled off the crime.

(Richmond, IN)--Methamphetamine was recovered during the arrest of three people at Richmond’s Walmart Tuesday night.  The three, who have been identified as Connersville residents Clifford Warner, Lauren Collins, and Amanda Palmer, were all being arrested for theft when officers found meth in Warner’s pocket.  All three were in the Wayne County Jail Wednesday morning.

(Camden, OH)--On Tuesday morning, we told you that police in Camden were searching for a man who was suspected of robbing the First Financial Bank on Monday.   Now, that man has been taken into custody.  Steven Anderson was captured on U.S. 35 just east of Eaton on Tuesday.  Anderson was in the Preble County Jail Wednesday morning.  He’s charged with robbery.  He’s also charged with possession of cocaine and heroin.
