Right now my kids get 30 minutes to eat their lunch at school. But could they eat it in 20 minutes? One of my children...maybe. The other....definitely not (he seems to take really small bites in-between talking and playing with his food). Check out this story. There are some schools across the U.S. shortening the school lunch break from 30 minutes to 20 minutes. Research shows that the length of the school lunch period is a key factor in how much nutrition children actually get and that students who get 20 minutes for lunch consume much less of their meal than children who have more time. So, why are we even discussing this? The short and easy answer is because they want children to spend more time in the classroom in hopes of raising test scores. I can tell you right now if my child's stomach is growling during a test, he is not going to have the test score they are hoping for. So please give him the extra ten minutes to eat his lunch. Could your children finish their lunch in 20 minutes?
