RCS BOARD TO INCREASE TEACHER SALARIES TO IMPROVE RETENTION

(Richmond, IN)--The Richmond Community School Board this week to a major step in the retention of teachers.  Teacher turnover has been an issue.  The district saw 25% turnover last year.  This week, the Board agreed to increase the salaries of teachers with up to 15 years of experience.  Starting pay increase by just over $3000 and will become $46,500 annually.  More experienced teachers will get a $4000 increase.  About 60% of all teachers will be impacted.  The plan reinstates a salary structure based on experience and degree status.  New money set aside by the state in the General Assembly this spring will fund the increases.  The Board will meet on Monday to finalize the plan.
