WQLK - 96.1FM
First aired as WGLM, a jazz station in October of 1960, our station is the oldest FM signal in Wayne County. Originally we were located downtown Richmond, as a 3200 watt air-wave before expanding to our current 50,000 watt station. We became a country station in 1972, with jazz on Sunday's programming. This was the same year that Brewer Broadcasting bought our station and shortly after, in 1974, our call letters offically became WQLK. In 1979, as some of our long-time listeners remember, we were known as K-96 and changed to a Classic Hits station, then to a Top 40 Station. It wasn't until 1992 that we shifted to a country station once again and adopted the name 'Kicks 96'!
Kicks 96.1 FM currently plays on our 50,000 watt radio tower, on a mobile app, web stream, and on smart speakers. In 2024 we had over 600,000 users streaming Kicks 96 digitally and countless more on our radio signal. We play artists like Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Morgan Wallen, Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, and many more.
Meet our air-staff below! We're thrilled to not only share our passions for country music, but also give away concert tickets, prizes, and so much more! We're dedicated to ensuring our listeners are getting the most out of public radio, and value each individual who listens to Kicks 96.1FM!
