2023 Indiana Special Olympics Summer Games

And it was a successful weekend not only for area Special Olympic athletes, and athletes from nearly all Indiana counties at the 51st Indiana Special Olympic Summer Games, but for Indiana Special Olympics itself.  The games were held this past weekend in Terre Haute on the campus of Indiana State University.  Area athletes from Wayne and surrounding counties heard their names called and were awarded medals in many Olympic-type sports, including bocce, cycling, powerlifting, swimming, track and field and volleyball.  But because the games forced the Indiana State baseball team to move their home NCAA Super Regional game to their opposition's field in Texas, the team from Texas Christian University took the opportunity to raise money to help Indiana Special Olympics, and their boosters donated nearly $50,000 to our state's Special Olympics fund.
