RCS BOARD ADOPTS RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH SCHOOL POLICE DEPARTMENT

(Richmond, IN)--On Wednesday night, the Richmond Community School Board approved a resolution to establish a school police department.  The Board issued a statement saying that it had concluded that it is time for the school corporation to explore new avenues for essential safety needs of the district.  Board member Aaron Stevens, who is a member of the Richmond Police Department, talked about the issue of school safety:  "I'm very passionate about this because it all comes down to student safety, staff safety, and family safety.  I can't just have a mall cop."  The RCS Board added that its goal is to provide safety and security on the first day of school.
