Jamey Johnson was taken into custody on Sunday according to WTVF Nashville. The DA's office confirmed the arrest. Johnson is accused of speeding and drug possession. His bond is set at $5,000, but details are currently sparse as to the exact charges he's facing; the incident remains under investigation . Johnson's arrest comes just days after the release of Midnight Gasoline, the singer-songwriter's first full-length album in 14 years. In 2016, multiple members of Jamey Johnson’s band were arrested in Mississippi for possession of a controlled substance, but Johnson was not charged in the incident. In interviews this fall for his new album, Johnson said he's been sober for 13 years. Johnson has no known other prior arrests.

*UPDATE 11/20/24
According to the arrest documents, Jamey Johnson was pulled over on Interstate 65 North in Williamson County, Tennessee shortly before 10 p.m. on Sunday for doing 87 mph in a 70 mph zone. When at the window, the officer believed he smelled marijuana. Johnson admitted he had “been around marijuana.” A search found multiple bags of marijuana and more than “10 joints” in the vehicle.
The amount of marijuana Johnson had in his possession means the charges rose to a Class E felony. This is the least serious felony class, but can still come with up to 1 to 6 years in prison, even if it’s unlikely Johnson will serve this kind of time. The 49-year-old retired Marine was arrested, and eventually released on $5,000 bail.
