24-year-old singer-songwriter Conner Smith was behind the wheel of a truck that hit and killed a 77-year-old Nashville woman on Sunday (6/8). The accident happened at the north end of downtown Nashville, away from the final day of CMA Fest activities. The victim, Dorothy Dobbins, is said to have lived nearby. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. Dobbins was walking her dog within a crosswalk when she was hit by the truck around 7:30 that night. The “Creek Will Rise” singer showed no signs of impairment and reportedly was not on his phone. While the investigation is ongoing, the cause of the accident is currently listed as failure to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian. Smith had previously played the Chevy Riverfront Stage at CMA Fest on Saturday. His next scheduled show is this weekend in Florida, touring with Luke Bryan. He was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards.
