The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department issued Conner Smith a misdemeanor citation for his role in a fatal June 8 car crash. As we previously reported, the rising country star was driving a pickup when he killed Dorothy Dobbins, 77, who was walking in a crosswalk with her dog. The accident happened at the north end of downtown Nashville, away from the final day of CMA Fest activities. Dobbins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. Immediately after the accident, police said he showed “no signs of impairment” and was not on his phone. The citation was issued yesterday (July 10). Smith was officially charged with failure to yield resulting in a fatality. As a misdemeanor instead of a felony, the charge underscores a lack of criminal intent. Since the incident, the city added multiple signs at the accident scene, clearly marked the crosswalk, and removed a tree that obstructed the view of the crosswalk.
