CONCERN EXPRESSED OVER RCS ATTENDANCE NUMBERS

(Richmond, IN)--Some members of the Richmond Community School Board are expressing concern about attendance throughout the school system…or, more accurately, the lack of attendance.  Two-thirds of students throughout the system are expected to miss at least 18 school days this year.  The state identifies students classified as chronically absent.  According to the latest numbers, 34% of elementary students in Richmond are chronically absent.  The percentage at Richmond High School is essentially the same.  The numbers are worst at Vaile Elementary, where nearly half the students are chronically absent.  RCS officials recently said that attendance at the high school was better in January when students were attending online.
