RCS BOARD TO ADDRESSED REVISED SCHOOL START TIMES

(Richmond, IN)--The Richmond Community meets Wednesday afternoon and will discuss both school hours and the calendar for the ’23-’24 school year.  RCS administrators have identified what they call barriers to teachers that include supervision needs before and after school.  The revised schedule reduces the instructional minutes to respond to those barriers.  It also eliminates the Tuesday early dismissal schedule.  Under the proposal, elementary students would start at 8:05 each morning.  But, Test and RHS students wouldn’t start their day until 8:50 each morning.  Dennis wouldn’t start until 9:05.  Some members of the Richmond Community School Board have expressed concern about attendance throughout the school system…or, more accurately, the lack of attendance.  Two-thirds of students throughout the system are expected to miss at least 18 school days this year.  Wednesday afternoon’s meeting begins at 5:30.
