EPA BEGINS TESTING AT SITE OF INDUSTRIAL FIRE

(Richmond, IN)--The EPA on Monday began collecting and testing debris at the site of Richmond’s large industrial fire last month.  It’s the first step in cleaning up the debris, and that cleanup will take months to complete.  Asbestos was located shortly after the fire.  Allen Jarrell with the EPA talked Monday about what else they’re looking for.  "We'll look for other hazardous contaminants...oils, acids that may have been used at this facility."  What kind of debris is found will determine where it goes for disposal.  It will also determine who performs the cleanup.  "It lets us know what we're dealing with.  We'll get funding and approval for this site," Jarrell added.  Testing results won’t be available for about a month.
