EPA RELEASES POST-FIRE TEST RESULTS, SETS COURSE FOR CLEANUP

(Richmond, IN)--After more than three months of testing, the EPA on Monday released a list of contaminants that were located in the debris of the My Way Trading fire.  The EPA took a hundred samples and found three components of concern:  benzene, lead, and asbestos.  Now, they’ll be working to contain those chemicals during clean-up which could start in as soon as three weeks.  "We'll probably be doing air monitoring around the site to make sure we're aware of anything that's being kicked up as well as making sure that everything is wetted down and covered so that it's appropriately contained," said Jeff Wawczak with the EPA to our news partners at WHIO-TV.  The start of the cleanup had been delayed until officials could determine exactly what was in the debris.  Once it begins, cleanup will take several months.  Richmond Mayor Dave Snow said Monday that the EPA had just released the results to the city and that they are working with the EPA to determine the next steps.
