RICHMOND'S DORA ORDINANCE SENT TO SAFETY COMMITTEE

(Richmond, IN)--Richmond Common Council Tuesday night heard on first reading an ordinance that would create a DORA in the Depot District.  DORA stands for Designated Outdoor Recreation Area and would allow people to walk around outside while drinking alcoholic beverages.  "Simply put, within the DORA, a person may exit the premises of a designated permittee with up to two alcoholic beverages in a labeled DORA container.  They also may drink the beverage outside or in businesses that allow beverages within the boundaries of the DORA," said Mayor Dave Snow.  Richmond can have up to seven DORA’s.  Tuesday night, council sent the ordinance to the Safety Committee which will review it and then make a recommendation.
