RICHMOND COMMON COUNCIL BECOMES MORE STRONGLY REPUBLICAN

(Richmond, IN)--Richmond’s Common Council becomes more strongly Republican as a result of Tuesday’s election.  The three successful at-large candidates, in order of votes received, were newcomer Jerry Purcell, Jane Bumbalough, and newcomer Justin Burkhardt.  All are Republicans.  "I'm very thankful for the outcome and I know that everybody who was elected will represent everyone in the city very well," said Bumbalough.  Democrat Claudia Edwards was edged out, but wished others well.  "I've been serving our community at different levels for years and I plan on continuing to do the same, and wish the best to all the elected officials.".  The race in District 2 was relatively close.  Democrat Lucinda Wright edged out Gary Miller by 53 votes.  The other contested race was in District 5.  Republican Anne Taylor unseated Gary Locke by a 61-39% margin.  Council will now consist of six Republicans and three Democrats.
